A song inspired by my experiences on the land, up in the Canadian and Greenlandic high arctic.

Lyrics

On sunlit nights when the shadows are long
I walk the shore in the place of no dawn
A falcon cries and the white wolf howls
Lullabies the snowy owl
Oh that midnight sun that noontime moon
Ever drum their mythic tune
They sing to me a northern song
On sunlit nights in the place of no dawn

I pinch myself as I look around
There’s so much space, hardly a sound
The light of the day shines through the night
And sundogs shimmer in the blue sky

High Arctic High

Lost and found in a million Miles
Anchored down in her maze of isles
Where most see voids now I see god
In the weathered bones and scattered rock
Oh the drummer’s song and the elder’s tale
Dancing, swirling on the gale
They sing to me a northern song
On sunlit nights in the place of no dawn

I pinch myself as I look around
There’s so much space, hardly a sound
The light of the day shines through the night
And sundogs shimmer in the blue sky

High Arctic High

Oh these voices call on the howling winds
To the Northern spirits I give in
For they’ve sung to me their northern song
On the sunlit nights in the place of no dawn

High Arctic High
